Selfridges Haul

In May it was my 21st birthday (eep so old!) and I was lucky enough to get some money/vouchers from various friends and relatives.
So as a treat to myself and a nice break from revision I decided to head off to Selfridges to have a nosey at the make-up counters.

I ended up buying Liquid eye liner from Chanel (Ligne graphique de chanel) in Noir Noir, which I love. It had a really thin brush which allows you to create very fine lines and is perfect for little flicks at the corner of your eye. The only issue I have with it is that to me it doesn't seem like there's much product in there as to finish one eye I have to put the brush back in the pot a couple of times but otherwise it gives a really nice finish.

My second purchase was more of an impulse buy than the others as I had at least heard of them and was wanting to try them. But this one came about from my desire to have a new setting powder. I was wandering around looking at all the different counters when I saw this one (Poudre Universelle Compacte) and tried it out. It felt so soft to touch and looked nice so I decided to give it a go! I quite like this powder, it goes on nicely to mattify my face but doesn't leave me looking overly powdery. I've not really had much experience with face powders so I find it hard to say if this is an amazing one but I quite like it so can't really complain!

Next was Laura Mercier's tightline cake eye liner in Black Ebony. This is one you have to use with a flat eye liner brush and some water. I was lucky enough to have the counter assistant put this on me so I could see how it looked and I really liked it! She made it look very natural and more just to give my eyes some definition rather than an obvious line of liner above the lashes. Again I really like this product and find it gives a nice finish which can be used as a casual day-to-day liner or can be built up for an evening look. I do find when i'm putting it on sometimes that it 'leaks' a bit and I have to get the tissues out to mop it up from the corners of my eyes but I think that's more done to my error than the product!

Finally I went for Diorshow blackout mascara. Again I was able to have this applied in store to see how it looked first. The assistant put some white primer on my lashes first of all to help the mascara stay better and prevent any clumping. I didn't buy the primer (though I was, and still am, tempted) and find that the mascara doesn't tend to clump anyway. Even without it, it makes my lashes look really long and dark. I think this mascara is great for lengthening, it gives a bit more volume but not loads but it can be built up fairly easily with 2 or 3 coats but it starts getting a bit clumpy.

So these were my Selfridges purchases that I decided to treat myself and splurge on. I should note I can't normally afford to go and buy all these on a students budget so most of my make up isn't high end!

Have you tried any of these products or want to do so?
